Governor Beebe Authorizes $1,000,000 in Disaster Funds for Storm Victims

Press Release

Date: May 25, 2010
Location: Little Rock, AK

Governor Mike Beebe has authorized $1,000,000 from the Governor's Disaster Fund to provide individual assistance for victims of the tornadoes and floods that began on April 30. The decision comes after Arkansas received word last Thursday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency had denied its application for direct federal aid. Arkansans with uninsured damage to their primary residences may be eligible for state aid in Conway, Crittenden, Jackson, Lonoke, Mississippi, Poinsett, Pulaski, Saline, Stone and Van Buren Counties.

Eligibility for the state assistance will be determined by the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management and the Department of Human Services. Beginning Thursday morning, victims whose residences have been rendered temporarily or permanently uninhabitable due to the tornadoes and flooding can contact the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management at 1-888-683-2336. Applications for uninsured damage grants and temporary housing assistance will be accepted through June 10.
