As a father, military officer, and first responder, Dr. Heck firmly supports our 2nd Amendment Rights and the rights of sportsmen across the state of Nevada. He respects the proud heritage of Nevada sportsmen and understands the importance of passing on our hunting and fishing traditions to future generations of Nevadans. The rights of Nevada's citizens to use public lands needs to be defended and access expanded to promote the sporting activities which are so firmly rooted in Nevada culture.
Dr. Heck believes:
* Citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. This is a fundamental, constitutional right that must be protected.
* Rather than restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens, we should focus our efforts on ensuring that those who commit crimes are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
* The rights of sportsmen and women should be protected, not only as part of the 2nd Amendment, but also as a treasured cornerstone of Nevada heritage and culture.
* As the term would suggest, public lands should be open for use by the public.
"In drafting the constitution, our founding fathers explicitly protected the rights of Americans to keep and bear arms. Today, activities including hunting, fishing, and camping are an important part of our cultural heritage. As your congressman, I will work tirelessly to protect the 2nd Amendment, ensure that the rights of law abiding citizens are upheld, and fight to keep our public lands open to the public."
