Griffith Comments on Government Investigation of President's Flawed NASA Plan

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Parker Griffith today responded to information released through an investigation conducted by the Government Accountability Office regarding the legitimacy of President Obama canceling the Constellation Program.

"In March, I was pleased to join with Congressman Aderholt in writing to Government Accountability Office (GAO) requesting they investigate the actions NASA has taken in response to the President's flawed and vague plan - included in his budget request - to misguidedly cancel the Constellation program and replace it with commercial efforts led by Elon Musk and SpaceX.

"We await the full response from GAO to all of the questions we posed, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that we fund NASA in a way that is respectful of the investments we have already made and that is mindful of the immense national security importance of our access to space."

Congressman Robert Aderholt and Congressman Parker Griffith wrote the letter to the Government Accountability Office asking them to investigate whether NASA was violating the law in its plans to shut down the Constellation space exploration program before receiving Congressional approval.
