Sen. LeMieux: Vote to Change "Don't Ask Don't Tell" is Election Year Politics

Statement

Date: May 28, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) today issued a statement following the Senate Armed Services Committee's vote on whether Congress should preempt a military review and repeal the 1993 law known as "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and allow gays to serve openly in the military.

Senator LeMieux said:

"The vote today railroads this policy change through without giving the men and women of our military the respect of being heard. To preempt the military's review and cut off the opportunity for service men and women to voice their opinion is an insult. This move is political, it is based on election year politics, and there is no reason why Congress couldn't wait until the military completed their review."
