U.S. Senators Robert C. Byrd and Jay Rockefeller, (both D-W.Va.) today applauded President Obama's nomination of William H. Ihlenfeld, II, of Wheeling, West Virginia, to be the next U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia.
"I am proud to have recommended William Ihlenfeld for this important position," said Byrd. "He has an extensive career as a prosecuting attorney, and has been actively involved in his community in working to prevent family and domestic violence, as well as violence against women. I am confident that he will serve as U.S. Attorney with an exceptional degree of integrity and fairness."
"Mr. Ihlenfeld is a well-respected attorney with over a decade of legal experience. As an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Northern Panhandle, he has protected our communities well," said Rockefeller. "I know that he will show the same dedication as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia."
Mr. Ihlenfeld is currently serving as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Brooke County, and served for ten years as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Ohio County. In addition, he has served as a Special Prosecutor in both Hancock and Marshall Counties. During his prosecutorial career he has had a focus on drug and violent crimes, as well as domestic violence and juvenile crimes.
