Crenshaw Announces First Winning "YouCut" Proposal

Press Release

Date: May 19, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Ander Crenshaw today issued the following statement to announce the first winning project "YouCut" proposal as Americans across Northeast Florida and the nation continue voting in overwhelming numbers for their favorite federal spending cuts.

"Over 280,000 Americans have cast their votes in the last week to make their voices count on Capitol Hill. With over 81,000 votes, the first winning spending cut is a proposal to eliminate a recently created, but unnecessary $2.5 billion annual welfare program," said Crenshaw, Republican Deputy Whip and Member of the Whip's Economic Recovery Working Group. "Congress will take its first up or down vote to eliminate this program on Thursday, and we'll fight on each and every week to cut wasteful federal programs. We won't be able to solve the spending problem in one swoop. But, we can address it one cut at a time with the goal of replacing Washington's culture of spending with a culture of savings. Future generations depend on it."

Crenshaw joined House Minority Whip Erica Cantor (R-VA) in announcing the new "YouCut" program on May 12. Over the coming months, project "YouCut" will provide Americans an opportunity to select their favorite spending cut via the web or mobile phone from a series of options. Members of the House will then take an up or down vote on that cut the following week.

How it works: Citizens can access the The House Economic Recovery Solutions Group "YouCut" website at http://republicanwhip.house.gov/YouCut.
