Congressman Jerry Moran (R-KS) joined members of the Kansas delegation in sponsoring legislation, H.R. 1177, to honor America's five-star generals and to enhance education programs at the US Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This legislation, introduced by Congressman Dennis Moore (D-KS), passed the U.S. House of Representatives today unanimously.

H.R. 1177 directs the U.S. Mint to create a coin in recognition of the five generals who attained the rank of General of the Army: George Marshall, Douglas MacArthur, Dwight Eisenhower, Henry "Hap" Arnold, and Omar Bradley. Each of these men was an alumnus of the CGSC. The proceeds of the commemorative coin will help fund the CGSC Foundation.

"With no shortage of threats today from around the world, our country is demanding much from those who serve in uniform. Our service members deserve the best education and training to accomplish these missions. This legislation both honors these five generals and alumni of the CGSC, but also helps the College continue its vital mission of professional military education," said Moran.

"The passage of HR 1177 today is a milestone achievement for the CGSC Foundation. The funds this coin bill will generate will support the "Margin of Excellence' for leader development initiatives at the CGSC for current and future generations of military leaders. A special thanks to Rep. Jerry Moran for his leadership and support of this important initiative," said Colonel Robert R. Ulin, U.S. Army, (Ret.), CEO, CGSC Foundation.

The CGSC was founded in 1881 and has played a decisive role in the education and training of US military officers in times of war and peace for more than 128 years. The CGSC continues to educate officers from all branches of U.S. military service, select members of our civil government and officers from many friendly and allied nations from around the globe.

The CGSC Foundation is dedicated to promoting excellence in the faculty and students of the CGSC. The Foundation is a nongovernmental, member-based and publicly supported nonprofit organization that exclusively supports the CGSC.
