This week, I co-sponsored H.Res. 1313. Introduced by Representative Parker Griffith (R-AL) H.Res. 1313 would designate May as "Child Advocacy Center Month" and commend the National Child Advocacy Center in Huntsville, Alabama, on their 25th anniversary in 2010.
In the United States there are approximately 900 child advocacy centers that have provided shelter and assistance to thousands of youths. In 2009 alone, over 260,000 youths who were sexually or physically abused sought refuge in these centers and were provided help. The support and aid these shelters offer have been valuable and life-changing to children across America. For this reason, I joined my colleagues in support of H.Res. 1313, which takes measure to nationally recognize the benefits of these centers and commend the mission of providing assistance to youth in need.
Throughout the remainder of my tenure, I will continue to support initiatives, such this, that recognize communities coming together to provide assistance to individuals in need.
