Candidate cites grassroots support as key to victory

With a strong first place finish on Tuesday, the leading conservative candidate Tom Graves entered a runoff for the Special Election for Georgia's 9th District with 35.3% of the vote and a commanding 12.2% lead over his closest opponent (with 99% of precincts reporting). With a crowded field of 8 candidates, the June 8th run-off comes as no surprise.

Graves, a former State Representative who served in the Georgia General Assembly for nearly 8 years, is confident about the contest ahead and honored for the support he's received.

"My team, family and I have worked hard--we've made 11,403 calls, knocked on over 5,000 doors, and responded to over 250 voter contacts. We're confident in this final leg of the race we can get the votes, respond to voters' concerns and win this contest." said Graves. "We would like to thank everyone who has supported us along the way, and we'd be honored if you would join us for the finish."

Graves is in a runoff to replace former Congressman Nathan Deal who retired after 18 years to run for governor of Georgia.

"This is a great and beautiful country--but we have a lot of work to do, and we need to stay focused on a number of pressing issues: balancing the budget, curbing the federal government, creating jobs, and protecting freedoms. I look forward to continuing my work alongside the rest of America in getting our country back on track."

Graves, a former State Representative, retired on March 23, 2010 in order to qualify for the May 11th Special Election.
