Every adult woman has a fundamental right to make her own reproductive decisions without the interference of government. Tony's position is clear, direct and without any ambiguity.
Despite the progress that has been made over the years, gender inequalities still exist. It's wrong that women, who comprise 47% of Pennsylvania's workforce, earn only 77-cents for every $1 a man makes for the same job. As governor, Tony will direct the Commission for Women, to initiate a study concerning the gender pay gap and make a concerted effort for change. This however is just the beginning. As a state, he believes we need to do more to ensure women have access to affordable reproductive health services. Tony supports legislation such as Senate Bill 406, which he co-sponsored, that would require insurance companies to cover FDA approved contraceptives under existing prescription plans.
Another important issue is the elimination of gender-based pricing for health insurance, which imposes a premium penalty on women when buying health insurance for themselves and their family. He also supports increasing state support for responsible family planning services as well as support for state adoptive services. As a son, brother, husband, and father, Tony knows the rights of our mothers, sisters, wives and daughters should be protected, not undermined by discriminatory government policies or practices.
