Focusing on her constituents' interests and fiscal responsibility, Rep. Debbie Halvorson (IL-11) voted today to reject a pay raise for Members of Congress during the 2011 Fiscal Year, by co-sponsoring and passing H.R. 5146.
"At a time when many of our neighbors are struggling to pay their bills, Congress should not be rewarding itself with a pay raise," said Halvorson. "We should continue to focus on the work of turning our economy around and putting people back to work. We have made a lot of progress over this past year, and now is not the time for a pay raise for Congress. Our focus must be on getting people back to work, strengthening our economy, and reducing the deficit," said Halvorson.
Throughout her first term in Congress, Halvorson has consistently supported and voted for legislation that blocks pay raises for Members of Congress, including legislation that blocked a raise during the 2010 Fiscal Year.
