Vitter Comments on Arizona Immigration Law
U.S. Sen. David Vitter today issued the following statement regarding the recent Arizona immigration law:
"What Arizona is doing shouldn't surprise anyone. It's a natural and legitimate response to Washington ignoring the problem for decades, and I support it. If people here want to blunt that trend, they should enforce the law federally and certainly not push a big amnesty again," said Vitter.
Vitter is also the chairman of the U.S. Senate Border Security and Enforcement First Immigration Caucus.
"In 2007, the American people spoke loud and clear that amnesty is an unacceptable means of addressing the ever-growing illegal immigration problem in this country. Congress must make it an objective to push for interior enforcement measures that will address the illegal immigration problem without granting a free pass to millions of illegal aliens. As chairman of the caucus I plan to look for any legislative vehicle available to pressure government on all levels to enforce the immigration laws currently on the books, as well as strengthen enforcement measures," said Vitter.
