We are turning our dreams into our children's nightmares. We must stop our government's unfathomable if not criminal out-of-control spending. We are facing two enormous crises:
1. Deficit spending: Deficit spending occurs when we spend more than we take in, when our outgo exceeds our income. A constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget will go a long way toward controlling deficit spending. But we must also adopt a single budget system for the federal government and eliminate "off-budget" budgeting. Further, we must practice "fixed-pie" budgeting, so that when a new expenditure is introduced to the federal budget, a corresponding amount must be eliminated from an existing expenditure.
2. Debt: The debt, the amount we already owe, is a clear and present danger and an urgent matter of national security. Including unfunded mandates such as social security and Medicare, our national debt is something in excess of $60 trillion dollars and is forecast to grow by more than $10 trillion in the next decade. Government costs too much because government has gotten too big. We must reduce the cost of government by reducing the size of government.
