Yesterday evening, Congressman Baron Hill voted for the bipartisan bill to stop automatic pay increases for Members of Congress in FY 2011, H.R. 5146. The bill was passed with overwhelming support, by a vote of 402 -- 15, and Hill is an original cosponsor of the legislation. In addition, last year Hill voted for H.R. 156 in the House that ultimately blocked the FY 2010 pay raise.
"In these challenging times, with unemployment still high and the economy recovering, Southern Indiana families are being forced to make hard decisions and cut spending to make ends meet," Hill said. "Washington should follow their lead, which is why I voted to block a pay raise for Members of Congress. Our focus must be on getting people back to work, strengthening our economy, and reducing the deficit."
