I am in favor of raising the corporate tax rate from 4.85% to 6%, with an exemption for those businesses and industries involved with "Green Collar Jobs". For example, if a company that makes control systems for wind turbines wanted to expand to Illinois (preferably the IL 94th District), they would be exempt from the higher rate.
Some may argue that the corporate rate is currently too high. To those people, please take note: corporate taxes are currently the lowest that they have been since World War II. Corporations should look to their own CEO pay rates to become more competitive in the global economy. The ratio of CEO pay to lowest employee salary has risen from 40 to 1 in the 1970s to the present 344 to 1. However, the ratio has remained around 20 to 1 in Europe and 11 to 1 in Japan during the same time frame.
We need to actively recruit "Green Collar Jobs" for the region and for our future.
