Democrats Say No Thanks To Fiscal Responsibility

U.S. Senator Jim Bunning issued the following statement criticizing Democrats for once again refusing to pay for the extension of unemployment benefits and other programs.

"On this tax day, it is tragic that we are condemning our children and grandchildren to a legacy of higher taxes and a lower standard of living because of these reckless and destructive decisions not to pay for our spending.

"I am disappointed that the Democrats continue to ignore their own pay-as-you-go rules. This kind of blatant hypocrisy is exactly why the majority of Americans don't trust their representatives in Washington anymore. The Democrats talk the talk, but can't walk the walk when it comes to getting our nation's fiscal house in order.

"We all want to make sure that the unemployed continue to receive these important benefits so they can make ends meet while they search for work, but we also need to make sure this spending is paid for. Prior to the Easter recess, Republicans and Democrats in the Senate had reach a deal to fully pay for a one-week extension of these unemployment benefits, but House Democrats said no, allowing these benefits to expire over a week ago and leaving these struggling families to fend for themselves.

"You'd think that we'd be able to find the money to pay for the cost of extending these important benefits and Republicans have offered several ways of doing just that, but Democrats have rejected all of them. Apparently, the Democrats don't feel it's that important to help those families in need unless they can also add to our nation's out-of-control deficit. Shame on them."
