Q -- What do you think of the state's $2 billion budget shortfall?
A -- It was avoidable if the legislature had lived within its means. I believe we should pass the Taxpayer Protection Act to limit state government spending growth to the rate of inflation plus population growth. Instead, the Raleigh politicians created expensive new programs and didn't make realistic projections about revenue growth. So when it came time to make up the difference, they raised our taxes and cut funding to our local schools. Yet the budget is still not balanced! It's time for new leadership.
