Moran Statement On Nation's High Unemployment Rate
Congressman Jerry Moran (R-KS) issued the following statement today after the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the nation's unemployment rate remained at 9.7 percent for the third month in a row.
"Today's unemployment rate shows that millions of Americans are still looking for work, more than a year after the Obama Administration promised millions of jobs through its $862 billion stimulus package. In fact, the U.S. economy has now lost a total of 3.8 million jobs since the stimulus plan was signed into law. The Obama Administration has spent more than a year growing the size of the government, when history shows that sustainable economic growth starts with the private sector," said Moran.
"Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and when small businesses succeed, jobs are created and communities are strengthened. Now is the time for Congress to pass legislation that creates an environment where small businesses can grow and create jobs," said Moran. "While Kansas has a lower unemployment rate than many states, I remain committed to crafting and promoting policy aimed at putting Kansans back to work."
Congressman Moran has introduced H.R. 4779, the Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act, to deliver targeted tax relief to American small businesses, freeing up capital to hire new employees and put the American economy back on track. The bill's key tax incentives are designed to encourage entrepreneurs to start and expand small businesses and create new jobs.
