Governor Riley Comments on AG's Statement

Statement

Date: April 9, 2010
Location: Montgomery, AL

Governor Bob Riley responded this afternoon to a statement issued today by the attorney general:

"The attorney general has apparently forgotten what our Constitution says. Let me remind him. There are three co-equal branches of government. I'm not over the judicial branch or the legislative branch, but the Constitution gives me supreme authority over the executive branch. The attorney general is a member of the executive branch.

"The people of Alabama would be better served if the attorney general would quit making these silly political statements and get back to caring about what the law is in this state.

"The attorney general is right about one thing, however. This is not about bingo. It never has been. It's about enforcing the law, which is something he is apparently unwilling to do."
