Gordon Votes For Job Opportunities And Improved Services For Veterans

Congressman Bart Gordon announced the U.S. House of Representatives passed seven measures this week to improve benefits and services to veterans, including measures to establish more job opportunities for veterans and support veterans in financial straits.

"Too many veterans are struggling to find good employment that makes the best use of their invaluable strengths," Gordon said. "It's important to honor their service to their country by remembering it when they come back home."

The Energy Jobs for Veterans Act increases job opportunities for veterans by reimbursing energy employers for the cost of providing on-the-job training for veterans in the energy sector. The grants created by the bill will encourage veteran hiring in the high-skilled and growing energy sector. The End Veteran Homelessness Act increases funding to successful programs for homeless veterans, strengthens permanent housing programs, and pays special attention to the needs of homeless women veterans and homeless veterans with children.

Other bills passed this week include measures to protect veteran home ownership, honor blind veterans, and make cost-of-living adjustments to existing veterans programs.

"The bills we passed this week address challenges that veterans of all generations are facing in the current economic climate." Gordon said. "These measures will help ensure those who risked their lives for our country have the resources and support they deserve."

All seven bills passed with wide bipartisan support. They will now move to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
