Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.), Co-Chair of the Republican Israel Caucus, today issued the following statement on Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington, D.C. in advance of his meeting with President Obama this evening:
"Like all nations, our close ally Israel has the right to confront the clear nuclear threat posed by Iran, defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people. In recent weeks, we have seen the Obama Administration attempt to suppress Israel's right to natural growth in its Capital of Jerusalem, while ignoring Prime Minister Netanyahu's resolute commitment to the peace process.
Let us all be clear: Jerusalem is not a settlement.
I urge the President to change his Administration's tune and respect our strong ally Israel's continued efforts to defend themselves, make local decisions as they see fit, and their continued efforts to achieve security and peace in the Middle East."
