Today U.S Representative Walter B. Jones (NC-3), 174 other House Republicans and 28 Democrats voted to block the House Democrat Leadership's pending attempt to pass the Senate version of President Barack Obama's government takeover of health care without actually voting on the bill. The effort to block the House Democrat Leadership's procedural ploy came up 10 votes short on a 222 to 203 vote. Congressman Jones is also a cosponsor of a bill introduced by Rep. Parker Griffith (Al-5), which would ensure an up-or-down vote in the House of Representatives on Obamacare. House Democrat Leadership has now signaled that they expect to keep the House in session over the weekend in order to execute their strategy to pass Obamacare without actually voting on the bill.

"The tactics being used to ram government run health care down the throats of the American people are as ugly as the bill itself," said Congressman Jones. "Frankly, they could be unconstitutional as well. This administration and this Congress need to get outside the Beltway and listen to the American people. They strongly oppose this bill. They know this country can't afford a trillion health care takeover, and they know this bill will compromise care for millions of Americans. It's time to kill the bill and get on to the real business of reigning in out of control federal spending and boosting this economy."
