U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today made the following statement after President Barack Obama signed health insurance reform legislation into law:
"Today, history was made as President Obama signed health insurance reform legislation into law that will save lives and save jobs. Over 100,000 Michigan small businesses will be able to receive tax cuts to help pay for health insurance for their employees. Middle-class families across Michigan will also see the benefits of this legislation immediately. Nearly 300,000 seniors around our state will save money on Medicare prescription drugs.
"We are standing up for middle class families and small businesses. Now, children in Michigan will be able to get health insurance coverage even if they have a pre-existing condition. Young people will be able to keep their insurance and stay on their parents' insurance policies until age 26. You will no longer be in danger of losing your insurance coverage just because you get sick. Bottom line, we are making insurance companies treat you fairly and making sure you get what you are paying for."
