Congressman Steve Scalise issued the following statement condemning the so-called "Slaughter Solution" as a shameless scheme that could allow the government takeover of health care to become law without even being voted on in the U.S. House of Representatives.
"Speaker Pelosi and her liberal lieutenants continue to try hiding the devastating consequences of their government takeover of health care, and actually have such contempt that they're trying to pass this bill without even having a recorded vote," Scalise said. "If this bill was so good for the American people, the liberals in Congress wouldn't be cutting all these back room deals and trying so hard to hide the names of those who vote for it."
The Slaughter Solution is a plan by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY), the Democratic chair of the House Rules Committee and one of Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) liberal lieutenants, to get health care legislation through the House without an actual vote. Currently Pelosi lacks the votes needed to pass the Senate health care bill through the House. Under Slaughter's scheme, Pelosi will overcome this problem by simply "deeming" the Senate bill passed in the House when a separate measure is voted on -- without an actual vote on the Senate bill by members of the House.
