Gov. Sanford Praises House's Passage of On-the-Record Voting Legislation

Gov. Mark Sanford today issued the following statement regarding the South Carolina House's unanimous passage of the Spending Accountability Act that requires on-the-record voting on important legislation.

"We'd commend the House for taking a commonsense step toward greater accountability and transparency today," Gov. Sanford said. "By taking last year's rules changes requiring on-the-record voting and solidifying those rules in permanent law, House members opened the books on their voting to the people of South Carolina and improved the way business is done in Columbia - and for that they deserve credit.

"I'd in particular applaud Representatives Nikki Haley and Nathan Ballentine for their leadership and tireless advocacy on this front, as their continued efforts over the last year and a half have truly reaped a dividend for taxpayers across South Carolina.

"Finally, we'd urge the Senate to join with Senator Harvey Peeler in passing this legislation in the near future, and at the same time we'd encourage people from all corners of South Carolina to make their voices heard with their respective Senators to help push this much needed reform across the finish line."
