Bono Mack Stands With Majority Of Americans In Opposition To Flawed Health Care Plan

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today released the following statement in opposition to the Democratic health care bill that includes billions of dollars in new taxes and over a trillion dollars in new big government spending:

"Tonight, I stood with the Majority of Americans in rejecting this deeply flawed health care "reform' legislation that does more to grow government than help every day Americans have access to the health care they need," said Bono Mack. "Instead of actually improving health care for Americans, this bill puts layers of bureaucrats between patients and their doctors and adds billions of dollars in new taxes and over a trillion in new government spending.

"I am outraged that the Democratic leadership is forcing this reckless legislation on the backs of the American people -- a bill that affects over 1/6 of our nation's economy and each and every American should be considered in an open process that incorporates bipartisan, widely-accepted solutions.

"This partisan bill that will change the very fundamentals of our health care system for years to come sets us on a dangerous path. As our nation's deficit continues to skyrocket, government spending is spiraling out of control. Already, we're facing over $60 trillion in unfunded liabilities in entitlement spending, and rather than address this problem, this legislation adds even more entitlement programs and more government programs.

"True reform should be accomplished with bipartisan cooperation, not strong-arm tactics and special deals made behind closed doors. Sadly, the only thing that is truly bipartisan about this legislation was opposition to the bill."
