President Barack Obama has released his plans to improve education, making adjustments to the current No Child Left Behind legislation approved with bipartisan support early in the Bush administration. North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan said she sent a letter to the president along with other senators voicing concern over some aspects of No Child Left Behind.

"We've stressed our belief that students' success depends on policies that establish clear goals and giving the people closest to the students the ability to determine the best way to meet those goals," said Hagan. The junior Democratic senator said she is concerned about the "all or nothing" nature of the current No Child Left Behind bill. She added the the policy is too punitive.

Hagan also said she is supporting adding financial literacy components so students understand basic economic concepts.
