Griffith's Statement On The Democrat's $1.33 Trillion Government Takeover Of Health Care

Press Release

Congressman Parker Griffith made the following statement regarding the Democrat's passage of the $1.33 Trillion government takeover of health care. The bill passed 219-212.

"This bill is bad for America and will not achieve either goal of lowering costs or raising the quality of care. It will most definitely result in higher taxes and a massive government intrusion into the lives of every single American," said Dr. Griffith.

"Americans have told Congress over the past year that they don't want this bill. I have talked to them traveling around north Alabama and I spoke with many of them who were here on Capitol Hill yesterday. Speaker Pelosi and her liberal followers are asking House members to sacrifice their careers to vote for this bill. These members are good for a vote and once they cast that vote it's "will you love me tomorrow' and the answer is no."

The Democrats health care bill will do a few of the following:
* Raises taxes on middle-class families
* Increases the Medicare payroll tax
* Imposes an Employer Mandate on business owners
* Creates an unfunded state mandate
* Include gimmicks such as tax-now-spend-later and the "Ponzi Scheme"
* Won't prevent taxpayer funding of abortions
* Lack of Medical liability reform
* Forces Americans out of current plans
* Increases premiums
* Increases personal health expenditures

Congressman Parker Griffith recognized the Democratic leadership abandoned the "Slaughter Solution" of "deem and pass" when voting on the Senate Health Care Bill.

"The Democrats didn't want to allow debate along the normal Rules of the House by trying to pass their health care bill using the "Slaughter Solution,'" said Dr. Griffith. "More than two hundred House members voted in favor of a resolution I introduced to require an actual up-or-down House vote on the bill. Even though the resolution did not pass, the vote discouraged Speaker Pelosi from using the "Slaughter Solution' by creating widespread outrage and forced the Majority Party to bring the bill on the floor for a vote."

Griffith officially offered a resolution this week, H.Res. 1188. If passed by the House, the resolution would have prevented Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) from implementing the "Slaughter Solution," the scheme by which Democratic leaders were seeking to pass the Senate's health care bill without actually voting on it. Dr. Griffith's resolution failed 222-203.

"The Democrats passed their health care bill by getting votes behind closed doors with back-room talks and sweet-heart deals. They passed a Trillion dollar government takeover health care bill that will stifle the healthcare marketplace and result in quality declines at higher prices."
