Statement

Date: March 10, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) praised the passage of the American Workers, State and Business Relief Act, by a vote of 62-36. The bill extends unemployment insurance and COBRA benefits, provides additional Medicare funding, and gives states additional disaster relief coverage.

He released the following statement:

"Over 200,000 Minnesotans request unemployment benefits every week. Today, we made sure that they can continue to receive them while we turn our economy around," said Sen. Franken. " During these tough times, savings are depleted, jobs are tough to come by, and families still have expenses to manage. Unemployment benefits are the only thing keeping food on the table for a lot of Minnesotans. I'm glad we gave them some good news today."
