Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W. Va., today voted against Rep. Kucinich's resolution of retreat from Afghanistan and made the following remarks:
"I have always said our military efforts should be driven by the expertise of our generals on the ground who know the day-to-day demands of the mission, and not by the political winds of Washington. Today's resolution of retreat from Afghanistan is a shameful political statement and should be repudiated by all Americans.
"Our brave men and women have made a commitment to prevent the spread of terrorism and to work towards a stable Afghanistan. They deserve our government's highest level of respect and dedication, and certainly not a vote of no confidence.
"The recent capture of top Taliban officials is a clear sign of our troops' progress in Afghanistan. Congress must continue to provide our servicemen and women with the tools and support necessary to ensure continued success in Afghanistan."
