U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) made the following statement after today's Congressional Gold Medal ceremony honoring Women Airforce Service Pilots:
"In Michigan, we have much to celebrate in the accomplishments of the Women Airforce Service Pilots from World War II. Today we do so by awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to those female pilots from our state. These brave women stood up and answered the call to service, while blazing the trail for women to continue to serve our country in times of great need. It is pioneering women like these who will continue to shape the history of America." - U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow.
The Congressional Gold Medal was awarded to 1,114 women or their families. Michigan is home to six surviving airwomen who were honored today.
