Rep. Roskam released a video statement responding to President Obama's health outline speech today and it was featured on Fox News' Fox & Friends show this morning. Click here to watch the video.

"Going into the White House health care summit I was hopeful that we would be able to start over. That we would be able to come together, Republicans and Democrats, scrap this disaster of a plan, and take a clean sheet of paper out and focus in on lowering costs and increasing accessibility and dealing with preexisting conditions. Because, overwhelmingly, that's where the American public wants us to go.

But the incredibly disappointing thing is, it looks as if President Obama is going to forgo any pretense of bipartisanship and just plod ahead on a plan that is increasingly unpopular. And for the life of me, I don't understand what it is about the word no that President Obama doesn't understand.

I served with President Obama in the Illinois state Senate and we were able to work together and accomplish a great deal across party lines. But the premise of those negotiations was that both sides came to it, looked at the problem, and began to have a conversation with one another. But I don't see any of that attribute today in this debate in Washington D.C.

I told the President at the White House summit, the Senate bill that he has basically taken up is like leftovers that they've popped into the microwave, pulled out, given some sprinkles of salt and pepper, tossed a few Republican breadcrumbs across the top and now put it in front of the American public and said "ooh isn't this good, don't you like this, this time?'

I think the public is really tired of this and they don't want these leftovers, they want a fresh start."
