Delauro: Republican Delay On Unemployment And Health Benefits A Disgrace

Statement

Date: Feb. 26, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today in response to Senate Republican Senator Jim Bunning's delay of a one-month extension of unemployment and COBRA health insurance benefits:

"It's easy for Senator Bunning to continue to delay these bills from the Senate floor, where he is warm, has easy access to food, and a doctor down the hall should he fall ill. Meanwhile, families across the country and in my home state of Connecticut, where the unemployment rate is 8.9%, face another day of struggle, uncertain if they will be able to put food on the table, pay their mortgage, be able to heat their homes, or afford for health care.

"With every passing day, Senate Republicans are continuing to deny hard-working Americans a vital safety net: a simple, one-month extension of unemployment and health care benefits. It is a disgrace, and represents Republican hypocrisy and obstructionism at its worst. Do the right thing, senators. It is time to pass this legislation."
