During my first year as Comptroller, I had my office perform a top to bottom review of every one of our agency's expenditures. We concluded that we could save a significant amount of your money by simply being more efficient.
We managed to cut spending in several different areas. We saved $250,000 this year by publishing our annual Health Claims Study online instead of on paper. We've saved $73,000 just by consolidating our orders of toner for our printers and copiers into one single contract. And we've saved more than $450,000 by better prioritized our information technology projects and doing more work in-house, instead of contracting it out.
In all, we have saved you the taxpayer nearly $10 million while improving the way we do business.
We anticipate saving you nearly $3 million more this year, while continuing to make our office more responsive and our records more user-friendly.
We've worked hard not only to be responsible with your money, but also to make the entire state government more transparent about their use of tax dollars. More on this can be seen here.
