Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Army's decision to award its FMTV contract to Oshkosh Corp. of Wisconsin:
"I am extremely disappointed with this decision, which clearly illustrates the need for a complete re-examination of the bidding process. Along with cuts to NASA and draconian cap and trade proposals, this decision serves as yet another example of the Obama Administration's plans to wreak havoc on the Texas economy. The dedicated workers of BAE Systems produced a generation's worth of high-quality, highly secure troop transport vehicles, and always delivered on time and on budget. Today's decision speaks volumes about how a bureaucratic mindset can trump the needs of our fighting men and women. My thoughts are with the entire BAE family and local leadership, including the Katy and Sealy Chambers of Commerce and the Greater Houston Partnership, who fought so hard for the 10,000 Texans whose jobs are tied to this contract.
"Texas' business-friendly environment continues to attract new employers, and my office will work with BAE and local officials in an effort to keep this world-class facility, and its world-class employees, hard at work."
