Gov. Rick Perry today announced the Governor's Commission for Women is seeking nominations of outstanding Texas women for the Texas Women's Hall of Fame. Nominations must be submitted by March 15, with the induction ceremony taking place on Sept. 20, 2010.

"The Texas Women's Hall of Fame is a showcase for the outstanding women that have helped make our state what it is today," Gov. Perry said. "These nominees will join the ranks of exemplary Texas women who have made a difference in so many lives across the state."

Nominations will be reviewed by an independent panel of judges. Nominees must be native or current Texas residents, and the achievement for which they are nominated must have been performed in Texas. Nomination forms are available at http://governor.state.tx.us/women/

The Texas Women's Hall of Fame was established in 1984 to honor the state's most accomplished women, including first ladies, teachers, astronauts and athletes. The permanent exhibit, which features biographies and photographs of inductees, was established by the Governor's Commission for Women in 2003 at Texas Woman's University's Hubbard Hall.
