Terry Comments On FY011 Budget

Statement

Date: Feb. 1, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Today President Obama submitted to Congress his budget proposal for fiscal years 2011-2020. Congressman Lee Terry made the following statement:

"I support tax cuts for small businesses and families, as well as the proposed spending freeze," said Congressman Lee Terry. "However the "spend now pay later' mentality in Washington must stop. Unfortunately, this budget more than doubles the debt, increases our deficit and raises taxes. I am dedicated to working with the President and my colleagues on both side of the aisle to look for more spending cuts to bring our country's fiscal woes under control."

Congressman Terry is pleased to learn that the Administration is proposing $56 million for design of a replacement VA hospital in Omaha:

"This is exciting news for veterans in Nebraska and Iowa," said Congressman Terry. "While it is not construction funding for the actual hospital, it is a significant down payment that will benefit our dedicated veterans. I have toured the Omaha VA hospital numerous times, helped to secured millions in funding and will continue to push for a new and improved facility. The Omaha facility has provided good care for our veterans, but after nearly 60 years it is in great need of replacement and I hope these design funds pave the way to a new hospital in the near future."
