Kagen: "We Want Our Money Back"

Press Release

Date: Feb. 3, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Kagen, M.D. continues his fight against Wall Street speculators. Today, after hearing that AIG executives might continue to loot our Treasury by taking taxpayer money home, Dr. Kagen declared, "We want our money back, and we are coming to get you."

Dr. Kagen voted against all the bailouts, including the Wall Street bank bailouts and has cosponsored legislation to tax these outrageous AIG bonuses funded by hard-earned taxpayer dollars.

"These AIG big shots survived only because they picked our pockets," said Kagen. "Taxpayers in Northeast Wisconsin want their money back."

"I call upon the Obama administration to catch and punish all of the crooks who looted our Treasury, starting with AIG."

Congressman Kagen recently helped pass the "Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act" that addresses unfair pay practices and allows a 'say on pay' vote for shareholders. Last year, Dr. Kagen also co-sponsored the "Let Wall Street Pay for the Restoration of Main Street Act of 2009", which creates a Wall Street transfer tax that would be directed to helping small business, and the "Wall Street Bonus Tax Act of 2010," that places a 50 percent tax on the bonuses of banks that have received TARP funds.
