Representative John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after meeting with President Barack Obama during a House Republican issues retreat last week in Baltimore, Maryland:

"Last week, my Republican colleagues and I were pleased to meet with President Obama about the many problems facing our nation. It is clear that businesses are afraid to hire and our nation is facing a fiscal crisis. We can no longer pretend that runaway spending, bigger government, more taxes and generational debt will lead to a healthy economy that can create jobs.

"Over the last year, House Republicans have been committed to being the party of better ideas and common-sense solutions. During our meeting, we presented to President Obama a copy ofBetter Solutions, our set of comprehensive solutions to address the nation's challenges. It includes the Republicans' no-cost jobs plan, our strategy to achieve energy independence, a common sense approach to lowering health care costs, and our plan on national security and financial regulatory reform. Solutions.GOP.gov.

"I urge the President to consider these ideas, so we can begin to work on ways to rein in runaway federal spending and advance policies that will put Americans back to work. I encourage every American to learn about the House Republican solutions by visiting

"These are difficult times for our families and our country. The economy is languishing, homes sales have declined, unemployment has hit double digits, and health care costs continue to rise. The American people expect their elected leaders to work together on solutions that will benefit the nation. Washington must take decisive action to get our economy moving again and to help put people back to work."
