Blackburn Supports Transparent Health Care Reform

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) today added her name to a discharge petition filed by Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-13). The underlying "Sunshine Resolution" requires public access to negotiations on the health care bill. To date, House and Senate Democrat Leadership have conducted those negotiations with the White House behind closed doors.

"Arms are being twisted and health care votes are being bought behind Washington's closed doors," Blackburn said. "The health care bill will immediately affect every single American. To decide its winners and losers beyond public view is simply wrong. If these closed-door negotiations are allowed to continue, we'll find ourselves with a health care system designed to achieve a vote threshold, not a threshold of care."

The "Sunshine Resolution" is co-sponsored by a bi-partisan group of more than 150 members, including Blackburn. If 218 Representatives sign the discharge petition, Speaker Pelosi is obligated to bring the resolution to the floor for a vote.
