Schock Statement On The One Year Anniversary Of Executive Order To Close Guantanamo Bay

Statement

Date: Jan. 22, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) issued the following statement on the one-year anniversary of President Obama's executive order to close the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba:

"As we mark the one year anniversary of President Obama's executive order to close Guantanamo, we continue to be reminded about how dangerous our world is. Just today, the Justice Department recommended that nearly 50 of the detainees located in Guantanamo are so dangerous that they be held indefinitely without trial under the laws of war.

"Those in favor of closing this multimillion dollar facility do not seem to get the fact that terrorists are not going to be mollified by simply changing the address of the terrorist's prison. Rather than satisfying the left-wing base and attempting to win an international public relations battle, we should keep the state-of-the-art detention facility in Guantanamo open rather than bringing these terrorists to Illinois." said Schock.
