Congressman Bachus Statement On Health Care And The Massachusetts Senate Result

Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) issued the following statement on prospects for health care legislation in light of the victory of State Senator Scott Brown in the Special Election for the U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts.

"Scott Brown's stunning victory shows that in a democracy, power truly belongs to the people. In my view, it was a rejection of a pattern of bigger government, higher spending, and massive debt that we have seen during the past year.

"Some are suggesting that government-run health care should still be rammed through Congress, but that would make a mockery of the result in Massachusetts and infuriate Americans across the country. It's time to end the private deals and do everything in the open so the public knows what's going on. As I have said, we should throw the current bills in the garbage can and start over on common sense health care reforms that fix problems in our system without destroying it."
