U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell released the following statement honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year, the national holiday honoring the civil rights leader will be observed on Monday, January 18.

"On Monday, we will honor the life and legacy of a great man who devoted his life to ridding our nation of injustice. The courage and heroism of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., continues to inspire us and is a testament to the impact one person with conviction can have on the nation and the world. Our country has traveled far since the Civil Rights Movement and the journey is not yet over."
