Linder Statement On C-SPAN Call For Transparency

Statement

Date: Jan. 8, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative John Linder (R-GA), issued the following statement today in support of a request by C-SPAN that all future health care negotiations be open to the public through media coverage:

"Americans everywhere need to thank C-Span for publicly calling into question the Administration and Democrat Majority's decision to break their promise of open and informed debate over Health Care. The President said himself, "we'll have the negotiations televised, on C-Span, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents, and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or insurance companies.' A noble gesture, but apparently, only a gesture."

"The public has been open with its government, through letters, record turnouts at town halls, petitions, and any other mechanism it can find to communicate its hopes and fears. So I ask Speaker Pelosi, and President Obama, "don't Americans across this country deserve the same respect from us?'"
