Today Rep. Eric Massa commented on the sixteenth anniversary of the North America Free Trade Agreement being signed into law. It was on December 8, 1993 that the agreement was enacted.
"Today we are seeing the ill effects of a disastrous free trade policy," stated Rep. Massa. "Failed free trade agreements have cost American jobs and it's time that we end failed policies like NAFTA and CAFTA. As it is now, deals like NAFTA give businesses incentives to move jobs out of America, leading to U.S. companies not being able to compete on a level playing field. This contributes to the negative financial situation we now see our country enduring. I think what we should be doing is giving tax incentives to businesses to create good American jobs. This anniversary is not a "Sweet Sixteen' but is instead a wakeup call to fix the broken elements of our economy."
