Husband of a doctor, father of three, and a leading voice for women's rights in Illinois -- Dan Hynes understands the importance of protecting reproductive rights that are under constant attack. Dan has stood at the forefront of the choice movement, organizing lobbying efforts for critical legislation and helping recruit pro-choice candidates.
As State Comptroller, Dan stepped out of the traditional role of the office and spearheaded the effort to organize the constitutional officers to support the Adolescent Healthcare Safety Act, a common-sense parental notification law, and actively lobbied members of the General Assembly for the passage of the bill. Not only did he organize his fellow officers, but he actively lobbied members of the General Assembly for the passage of the bill. Dan has also worked with women's rights organizations from around the state to help recruit and elect more progressive candidates. Just this past spring, Dan once again stepped forward to advocate for the Reproductive Health and Access Act in Springfield. This legislation seeks to lower the incidence of unwanted pregnancies through better education and access to quality health care. Dan understands the importance of this legislation and is the first gubernatorial candidate to support and push for its passage.
While Illinois has made some progress on women's reproductive rights, Dan recognizes there is still a long way to go. He has demonstrated his commitment to these issues and he looks forward to standing with women's rights groups all across Illinois to guarantee that the state does not interfere with a woman's right to use or refuse contraception, to ensure that we better educate our young people regarding the risks of pregnancy, to provide better access to medical care, and to make certain that a woman's right to privacy is preserved and protected. The choice is clear. There is no candidate for Governor with a stronger record and vision on women's reproductive rights than Dan Hynes.
