Senate Approves Stabenow Amendment to Protect Medicare Benefits in Health Insurance Reform Legislation
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today made the following statement following Senate passage of her amendment to The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act . The "Stabenow Medicare amendment" ensures that there is no reduction or elimination of benefits guaranteed to participants in Medicare Advantage plans.
"Nothing in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act would cut benefits for seniors. My amendment makes that even more clear," said Stabenow. "Right now Medicare is making excessive payments to private insurance companies that operate privatized Medicare Advantage plans. The Senate health insurance reform bill eliminates these overpayments and puts the money back into Medicare where it belongs. Doing so will reduce costs for seniors and save Medicare for years to come."
