Today, Congressman J. Gresham Barrett (SC,03) released the following statement:
"Today, the President chose to take terrorists from the secure and isolated facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which is designed specifically to hold enemy combatants, and transfer them to our native soil. Moving these terrorists to New York City or Charleston, South Carolina or anywhere in our country puts our citizens at greater risk for future terrorist attacks and that is irresponsible, ill-advised and simply unacceptable.
"Make no mistake; these men are not common criminals. They are radical terrorists with one mission in mind -- to take American lives. International terrorists should not be granted the same rights afforded to U.S. citizens. These killers should be treated as enemy combatants and their justice should be delivered in military tribunals not on American soil."
