During this Congress, Rep. Sutton has supported and helped enact several key pieces of legislation to help our veterans secure jobs, benefits and medical care, including:

* The Stop-Loss Compensation Act, an initiative by Rep. Sutton, to increase pay to members of the armed forces who are kept in the military past their enlistment dates through the Pentagon's stop-loss program. Soldiers who have been subjected to extended service after September 11, 2001 through stop-loss will now receive $500 per month for each month their service is extended. Applications for stop loss compensation are now available. For more information, please visit Rep. Sutton's Web site: http://sutton.house.gov.

* The new G.I. Bill, which restores the promise of a full four-year education to our service men and women and makes education assistance transferrable to spouses of service members who served in Iraq and Afghanistan;

* The Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act, which gives Congress the authority to approve funding for veterans' medical care a year in advance. This will enable the VA to adequately plan the best way to deliver efficient and effective health care to our veterans;

* The FY 2010 Military Construction/VA Appropriations, which provides the largest-ever funding increase (nearly 12 percent) to expand the number of VA doctors and nurses, increase VA mental health screening and treatment, and improve access to VA health care for modest-income veterans;

* The Recovery Act, which provides a tax credit to businesses for hiring out-of-work veterans, funds for improvements to veterans' hospitals, and provided disabled veterans with a payment of $250; and

* The Defense Authorization bill, which provides for a 3.4 percent pay raise for our troops, increases military readiness, and supports military families by increasing funding for housing programs.
