To celebrate the day that honors our brave American veterans, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill joined mid-Missouri, World War II veterans visiting Washington, D.C. at the World War II Memorial. The group was in the nation's capital through an organization called Honor Flight. McCaskill recorded a tribute to honor brave World War II veterans, like her late father, and the millions of other veterans who have and continue to serve our country.
Transcript of the recorded video tribute:
"We spend a lot of time on trick-or-treat at Halloween and a lot of time picking out Valentine's Day cards, but if you really think about where the heart of our nation should be, it should be with the veterans who have served. My dad served in World War II. He didn't talk about it much. After he died we found out that he was decorated for bravery and had done things that he had never ever spoken of that he should have been very, very proud of. I miss him, especially around Veterans Day, and I'm just so grateful that I had the opportunity to visit with all of these World War II veterans here at the World War II Memorial in D.C. Happy Veterans Day."
